UMortgage joined NEXA. Here is why it matters if you are choosing a platform.
Two of the most recognized brokerages in the country spent years as public rivals. In August 2026, one of them joined the other. The reasoning behind that decision is better evidence of what NEXA is than anything a recruiting page can say about itself.
NEXA Lending announced its acquisition of UMortgage in August 2026, adding 246 loan officers who originated about $2.05 billion over the prior 12 months. UMortgage founder and CEO Anthony Casa joined NEXA as an Executive Partner, along with Jimmy Hobson, Nash Paradise and Tyler Hodgson. UMortgage keeps its brand, marketing and sales culture, and the UMortgage entity is expected to dissolve by the end of 2026.

The short version.
The deal merged two of the most visible independent brokerages in the United States and ended one of the broker channel's most public rivalries.
UMortgage brought 246 loan officers and roughly 275 people in total. RETR data reported by HousingWire put NEXA at 4,047 loan officers and $14.15 billion in annual volume with UMortgage included, and the companies projected combined production above $16 billion. UMortgage's loan officers move onto the NEXA 100 compensation program, and its proprietary technology platform, Tempo, is being spun off rather than shut down.
Todd Bitter, a former UMortgage sales executive who had joined NEXA earlier in the year, helped bring Casa and NEXA founder Mike Kortas back to the table.
The relevance is not the size of the deal. It is the reasoning.
UMortgage was one of the most recognized independent brokerages in the country, with its own technology, its own culture and its own brand. It chose to operate on NEXA's platform anyway - and kept the brand while doing it.
Casa framed it as a scale decision. Looking at what NEXA had already built - the technology, the lender relationships, the infrastructure and the economics - he concluded that spending years rebuilding it on his own made less sense than joining it.
"How am I supposed to compete with this?"
Anthony Casa, on NEXA's technology, lender relationships and scale - August 2026 announcement
The most credible judge of what a broker platform is worth is another broker platform's owner. When the independent brokerage that had every reason to stay independent decides the platform is worth joining, that answers part of the question you are asking.
Three things this tells you.
Scale keeps compounding
Every added organization improves the lender pricing position, compliance infrastructure and technology budget. That leverage is what lets the company pay 100% of the revenue and still operate.
Brands can stay intact
Keep your brand, your culture and your client relationships while moving onto a larger operating platform. Independent does not have to mean alone.
Consolidation is coming
Casa's role at NEXA includes pursuing more broker acquisitions. Betting against scale in a consolidating market is a harder position than it was two years ago.
What this does not mean.
- It does not mean UMortgage failed. It was a successful company making a strategic choice about leverage.
- It does not change your compensation plan. NEXA Unlimited pays 100% of the revenue on its nine providers either way.
- It does not fix the model's real constraint. NEXA still provides no leads and no salary. Scale is not a pipeline.
- It does not prove the platform is right for you. It proves serious operators are betting on it. Whether it fits you depends on your referral network.
If you own a brokerage, this is aimed at you.
The acquisition was framed as a blueprint for mortgage leaders who want to keep their brand and sales organization without carrying every cost and liability of operating an independent company.
If you are a broker owner weighing scale against independence, that is a real conversation to have - and I will have it with you honestly, including the parts that do not suit you.

Disclosure: I am a NEXA Executive Partner and I earn revenue share when loan officers I sponsor fund loans. I benefit if you join through me. Read this page with that in mind, and compare me to at least two other sponsors before you decide.

If serious operators are joining, look at why.
